I assume we're talking about the BBC's goal of the tournament then?

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
HRK all the way. Not even Cruyff scored with his own turn. And he only beat one player.

Shaqiri's spoilt by the fact it bounced. Too scruffy.

Seriously?

Ha ha ha ha ha, that's fucking ridiculous.

I mean a decent goal, but also something you see every week where as Shaqiri's isn't.

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
Payet, Shaqiri, Niagonaan or however you spell it, all better than Robson Kanu....even Hamsik's.

Proper British vote that. Overhead was mental.

Would have been very very hard for them to beat Shaquiri's overhead kick (presuming that's what won)

Robson Kanu's Cruyff turn goal won

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
I thought he might miss out, but then when I thought why and who will pip him and I couldn't come up with anyone else that's out performed him

I think the French manager wrongly removed him in the last 2 games, we know first hand Dimi can go large periods of games where he's not at the forth front but he produces moments of brilliance in the flicker of a second... Poor management you always leave a player of that quality on the field unless they're injured, tired or blatantly playing shit which he wasn't

Agree with the result, well done Dimitri.

The BBC goal of the tournament thing was ridiculous though - they closed the poll at the end of normal time, before Eder's goal.

Blimey. I suppose someone had to get it, there was no standout so why not Payet. I'm still a bit surprised though because he did not play that well from the QF, would be churlish to say otherwise.

After the first two, I kept thinking of what Bilic has been saying all season, that Payet makes the others in his team play better. This definitely happened with France. They were lost without him for the first two, but it seems they grew with each game, and there were times you could see Dimi encouraging them to make the simple passes under pressure, not to panic, and it worked as the other players raised their games by the third fourth matches.

He just couldn't keep it up for the whole tournament after such a long season.

Felt Pepe and Rui Patricio basically won a dour tournament in the end.

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
He was quiet in he semi final but I thought he was quite lovely last night and willing to go at the Portuguese defence. He caused them problems every time he got the ball and god knows why griezman was on corners instead of payet as they were woeful

Syrange and harsh decision to haul dimi off last night - coman was dangerous but furnace could have done with both of them. They'd have been better off sacrificing matuidi instead

RAHEEEEEM Sterling got runners up....

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
Griezmann was as quiet for the first 2 games as Payet was for the last two. He lit up the tournament and literally dragged France through a couple of games on his own, Romania was the performance of the tournament for me.

Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
People tend to only remember the last few games. You could argue that they carry more weight but Payet was fantastic for most of the tournament whilst his closest competitor had a proper stinker in the final.

Lily Hammer 11:47 Mon Jul 11
Re: Payet gets player of the tournament
Payet probably did enough in the first two matches to top this list. He was immense. The last two, he was hardly in the games. I can't quite rememeber the middle three games.

He looked leggy the last two, though I still feel he should have kept him on longer, as he was still the most likely to come up with something to turn the match, but I can see why Deschamps thought he should be the one to pull first.
